Bollywood Goes Turbulent. Production Houses Face Major Hurdles

For the last 3-4 years Bollywood is not having a good time. The whole industry has shaken and the results are visible.

Dharma Productions has sold 50% of its stake to Adar Poonawalla. The production house for the last two decades has been one of the major driving forces of Bollywood alongside Yash Raj Films.

Unfortunately, a genius like Karan Johar couldn’t understand the needs of a changing market and had to succumb by selling his assets.

But in the past too we have seen the decline of Raj Kapoor films and Rajshri Productions, so the fall of Dharma shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The total bankruptcy of Pooja Entertainment and the whole circus with the media and Netflix India is nothing but embarrassing.

A similar thing happened with Phantom Studios which used to boast Anurag Kashyap as its member. Vistaar Group’s Sheetal Talwar has taken over the remaining 30% stake from Madhu Mantena.

The newly revived Fuh Se Phantom is actively working on multiple projects, with its first release, a remake of Love Today, scheduled to hit theatres on February 7, 2025. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film stars Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan.

In addition, the studio is developing a remake of the 2023 Telugu romantic drama Baby, as well as a psychological thriller directed by Rahul Dholakia.

Let’s see what is the fate of the existing Bollywood production houses. If Dharma can fall, any other production house can. No one is immune.
