“Devara” has smashed the box office since its release, grossing more than ₹170 crores globally. The Hindi version alone has crossed ₹7 crores, which may seem modest compared to other pan-India releases, but considering the lack of hype in the Hindi belt, it’s still a good number.
Although the movie’s initial reactions are mixed, this huge collection reflects NTR Jr.’s immense star power. He can bring in significant box office numbers, even with a mediocre film. However, the real test of the movie will begin after the first weekend, where its performance will be more telling.
With no major films currently running in the Hindi belt—except “Stree 2″, which is in its final days—”Devara” has a fair chance to continue drawing in big numbers. These numbers could have been even higher if the film had been better promoted in the Hindi belt, but the lack of competition is likely to benefit it.
The Telugu film industry is giving “Devara” a clear path, as the next major release, “Pushpa 2”, is more than two months away. The real challenge for “Devara” will come in the Hindi belt, where Alia Bhatt’s “Jigra” and Rajkumar Rao’s “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video” are set to release on October 11th.
Do you think “Devara” will be able to survive after the release of these films?
