Could This Be The Beginning Of Another Akshay Kumar – Priyadarshan Era?

It has truly been a weird year for the Indian film and entertainment industry. Apart from the controversies peppered here and there, the industry also bore witness to huge expected box-office clashes, unexpected box-office performances, as well as an overall increase in the trend of either re-releasing films or developing sequels of fan-favorites.

Take for example the case of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, the second sequel to Priyadarshan’s iconic 2007 horror comedy. Although the film went on to become a box-office success, it largely failed to impress audiences. With the recent announcement of ‘Bhagam Bhag 2’, the sequel to yet another one of Priyadarshan’s classic comedic titles, viewers have been left divided.

This announcement also comes in the aftermath of Akshay Kumar announcing his collaboration with Priyadarshan for ‘Bhooth Bangla’, a horror comedy project slated to release in cinemas in 2025, officially marking their reunion after 14 years. If ‘Bhagam Bhag 2’ also turns out to be a Priyadarshan directorial, as is being desperately wished by fans, it would serve two potentially major purposes.

On the one hand, it could bring back the OG comedic era which was dominated by the duo through titles like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Khatta Meetha’, ‘De Dana Dan’, and ‘Garam Masala’, while on the other it could also resolve Akshay Kumar’s streak of constantly delivering below average titles for the better!
