‘Devara’, ‘The Buckingham Murders’, ‘Vijay 69’: What’s Your Netflix Pick This Weekend

This Friday is going to be quite busy for Netflix India as three titles make their way to the global streaming giant. Interestingly, all of these belong to a very different categories targeting a different set of audiences.

First up there is Jr NTR, Jahnavi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan led ‘Devara’ which is making its highly anticipated digital debit after doing a good enough business at the box office. This tentpole drama received mixed reviews from critics but managed to impress fans who had been waiting long for the film.

Secondly there is Hansal Mehta directorial ‘The Buckingham Murders’ starring Kareena Kapoor Khan as a grieving British-Indian detective. The film premiered at the London Film Festival last year and a couple of months ago in theatres in India. Unfortunately the film bombed at the box office despite critics praising Kareena’s performance in it.

Lastly we have ‘Vijay 69’, a direct to digital release coming from YRF Entertainment with Anupam Kher leading what is described as a quirky, slice-of-life drama about a man who decides to compete in a triathlon at the age of 69.

While all three have the potential to churn up big numbers for Netflix, the streamer doesn’t seem to be much interested in them except a little for ‘Devara’. Well it’s the biggest title amongst the three and Netflix wouldn’t want to let go of the opportunity.

Although if promoted rightly, even ‘The Buckingham Murders’ and ‘Vijay 69’ have huge potential. But unfortunately Netflix seems to be ignoring them with almost no marketing at all.
