Did Jigra Fall Into Bollywood's Trap Of Over Promising And Under Delivering?

With a very weak box office start Alia Bhatt’s new movie “Jigra” is gathering quite a bit of controversy.

Directed by Vasan Bala, and produced under the banner of Dharma Production this movie promised a lot more than what it delivered.

With the rise of female leading movies, “Jigra” promised the audience to give a very impactful story, while giving some mind numbing action.

Under the banner of Dharma Production the other recent action movie “Kill” gathered a humongous amount of praise, which made the viewers think that now probably Dharma Productions is bending the genre.

Furthermore, after the announcement and the trailer launch the hype around it made it a huge deal which made the audience think that this has the potential to be a big break for female leading action movies.

But, “Jigra” didn’t even try to go beyond the box, the only intriguing part about the movie which is specifically praise worthy is the emotional depth we saw between Vedang Raina and Alia Bhatt, and with all fairness this was the main thing which kept the movie going.

While the movie promised to be a very action packed one, we saw Bhatt doing occasional taekwondo. Even the jail break moments were filled with cuts which made it look easier.

Alia Bhatt’s acting was undoubtedly top notch, which single handedly saved the movie, but rest is just some family drama, and a very basic jailbreak story.

Which initially categorised the movie into promising a lot but delivering less.

Although, after Day 2 “Jigra” picked a little bit more from the box office, IMDb gave it a solid 8.1 rating which is pretty good.

With all fairness, it didn’t deliver the action we expected but instead gave us a very strong movie about the bonding of a brother and sister.

Now it’s time to see how the theatrical run ends for “Jigra”.
