Hansal Mehta On His YouTube Channel, Something's Cooking!

Renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta, known for his content-driven movies like “Shahid”, “Aligarh”, and “Omerta”, is planning to venture into the cooking genre—not with his cooking skills, but by creating his own YouTube cooking channel. Additionally, he has plans to launch his own food-based OTT platform.

The man behind “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story”, one of India’s most impactful series, recently had an interaction with famous celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, where he shared his views on cooking shows and his love for cutlery skills.

According to Mehta, cooking is more like meditation than a competition, which is why he isn’t fond of reality shows like “MasterChef” that operate under time constraints. He believes cooking is an art that requires patience and care, which isn’t possible in a time-based format. As a result, he plans to launch his own cooking shows.

In recent times, cooking-based content has seen great potential, especially after the lockdown, where demand for such shows has only increased. It will be an interesting shift for Mehta, who is primarily known for his thought-provoking films. He recently directed “The Buckingham Murders” starring Kareena Kapoor Khan.

It will be interesting to see if this idea works in a long format, given that cooking videos often gain traction in short video formats. The question remains: Will long-form cooking shows be able to capture the same level of audience attention? Let us know your thoughts!
