Dadasaheb Falke’s epic journey of discovering the joy of filmmaking and adapting the new techniques of storytelling for Indian narratives is an inspiring story for all who love cinema. Here is a Marathi movie that captures his journey in a fun but emotional way.
‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ tells the story of the ‘father of Indian cinema’ Dadasaheb Falke, who found out about cinema while he was working as a magician and then went on to learn all the tricks of motion pictures. He soon decided that he will use filmmaking to tell the stories of Indian mythology and made India’s first motion picture titled ‘Raja Harishchandra’.
The movie is funny and moving at the same time. It has some of the flaws of a small-production but is an earnest and dedicated project after all.
It is written and directed by Paresh Mokashi and has wonderful performances from actors like Nandu Madhav, Vibhavari Deshpande, Sandeep Pathak, Bhalchandra Kadam, Satish Alekar, Jitendra Joshi and more.
The music was given by Anand Modak and the cinematography was handled by Amalendu Chaudhary. There is one more reason to watch the film. The editing of Harishchandrachi Factory is done by none other than Anurag Kashyap.
