For an industry with audiences as subjective and volatile as the media and entertainment industry, is it really a good idea to release more and more content based off of the same generic theme? While one may argue that this is a classic case of demand and supply wherein increasing demand warrants increasing supply, to what lengths does this apply to the film industry?
Take for example the case of the raging success that horror-comedy films like ‘Stree 2’, ‘Munjya’, and more have garnered recently. It is clear that the audience want more of the genre, taking into consideration the high ticket sales that ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3′ has also managed to amass.
However, till when can this scope within the genre be exploited before the market becomes saturated? This is brought into question, especially now that Maddock Films’ new installment in the horror-comedy space, ‘Thama’, has been announced.
Led by Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, ‘Thama’ also features an added slate of big names like Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. While this may be enough to draw viewers into screens, will ‘Thama’ be the end of a long line of successful horror-comedy ventures? Or will it prove to be yet another milestone for the genre?
