All logic seems to have gone out the window for cinemas and multiplex chains. While on the one hand they ruin entire months by making anticipated titles release either on the same weekend or on the same day, on the other, they aim to revive their drying businesses with piling up re-releases.
Case in point: the three re-releases lined up for the upcoming week in October, from 18th to 24th: ‘Singham’, ‘Khosla ka Ghosla!’, and ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’. While it makes sense to re-release films that were received well initially, it is a struggle to perceive why titles like ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’, which weren’t even released all that long ago, are hitting theatres again.
Perhaps, one of the reasons it’s being re-released is because the film initially debuted during COVID, and didn’t quite have the option of receiving a good audience. Other than that, for the Rohit Shetty cop-franchise which began with ‘Singham’, it seems to be a smart marketing strategy to re-release the OG title in theatres.
With ‘Singham Again’ en route to cinemas on November 1, re-releasing ‘Singham’ might as well benefit both titles. As for ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla!’, it is to be expected that the well-received feature will re-release to another slew of positive acclaim, as was seen in cases like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Laila Majnu’.
