In A Dearth Of Hindi Films, Regional Cinema Has Chance To Thrive

When slowly Bollywood was getting back on track after some disasters, now it has again entered a period of halt. On 11th October two films that were highly anticipated namely Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Who Wala Video. After their releases though, Bollywood will have no releases for the rest of October. The next Hindi release we’ll get will be in the form of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiya 3, which will be released on 1st November.

This lack of Hindi films will mean the films from other industries will have a chance of securing a good collection. The regional industries like Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Gujrati etc. are looking forward to exploiting the gap in the Bollywood.

This week and the following one will see a bunch of movies being released which do not appeal to the national audience but to the regional audience only. Films in all regional languages are seeing multiple releases. These include Murphy in Kannada; Sir, Amaran and Bloody Beggar in Tamil; Bougainvillea and Lucky Bhaskar in Malayalam; Tabaah, Goreyan Naal Lagdi Zameen Jatt Di and Chor Dil in Punjabi; Like Aani Subscribe, Paani and Raja Rani in Marathi; Karma Wallet and Ha Ha Car in Gujrati. Telugu industry will see most releases with films like Kallu Compound 1995, The Deal, Love Reddy Veekshanam and Rewind releasing in the month ahead.

With no Hindi releases, the national cinema chains like PVR-INOX will be forced to screen regional films in their theatres. This will further push the films and help them gain an even better profit. This will ensure the proliferation of regional cinema in the meantime. Some languages that hardly get a chance in securing a national theatre also will get screened in them. An example is the Chattisgarhi film Balifool Welcome To Bastar which has grabbed the attention of the National Cinema Chains.

Hence the regional film industries will see a phase of growth in this period of lack of Hindi and National releases.
