Is Jigra Facing Legal Trouble?

For a few moments, it appeared Jigra was lagging as a film, with a few legal conundrums hovering over it. Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated film almost missed its scheduled release date, as a complaint was filed by a teacher from Rajasthan, Bhallaram Choudhary, stating that he has been conducting the online classes under that name since before. It all got serious and clarified when, actually, a lower court in Jaipur put a stay on the release-Jigra’s premiere seems to have been plunged into uncertainty once more!

But now, securing rulings seems to have put it all above board for Jigra at least for the time being. Justices Pushpendra Singh Bhati with Munnuri Laxman reviewed the case before them and reversed the trial court’s order. They observed no trademark infringement from the film title because Dharma Productions, the company backing Jigra, was not delaying the Rajasthan teacher, Bhallaram Choudhary’s, online class company in a direct competitive position.

It was also stated in the novella by that court that some damages could be occasionally allotted to either financial or non-financial remedies. The court’s prime concern was to avoid unnecessary financial losses to the movie, originally set for October 11 release. So, there it is! Jigra is clear, and fans can now count down until the date of release instead of having any further legal troubles.

But seriously, with all this buzz, it almost feels like this legal tangle gave the movie a bit of extra attention. Now, let’s see if Jigra can live up to the hype!
