Aamir Khan’s Laapata Ladies was one of the most successful films of this year so far receiving numerous praises and was highly rated by the critics as well. Despite founding limited success in the theatres, it became an instant classic after its Netflix premiere.
Produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Kiran Rao, the film was also nominated for India’s official entry for Oscars 2025. The highly rated film starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan recently made huge headlines after its Japan release.
Released with the title, ‘Where is the Bride?’, the film made its theatrical debut on October 4th in Japan. Despite having a very limited theatrical run (only 24 locations), the movie received an incredible reception from Japanese viewers over the weekend.
According to sources, the film made ¥9.32M over the weekend which is highly impressive. In contrary, several blockbusters failed to mint this much in Japan despite being a huge hit in Indian Box office.
Films including Bahubali 2 (¥7M), Tiger 3(¥8.68M), Dangal(¥6.1M) and Brahmastra(¥6M) underperformed as compared to Laapata Ladies.
Given the recent progress of the film, it is expected to be a huge hit in the Japanese Box office. Only time will tell how things shape up for the comedy-drama internationally.
