Pakistan’s ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ Release Halted In India

Fawad Khan might have to wait even longer to re-enter Indian Cinemas as his premiere film The Legend Of Maula Jatt was supposed to release in Indian theatres today. Originally, the film was supposed to be released in India in December 2022. When the release was given an indefinite postponement, fans were not happy.

Zee Studios, who had acquired the distribution rights, declined to comment on the delay of 2022, even though the film was supposed to open in Delhi and Punjab. Then it was confirmed that the film will be releasing on October 2nd, 2024 covered with a lot of controversies throughout its release journey.

The film was scheduled to release in the Indian state of Punjab on Wednesday, marking the first time a Pakistani film has been shown in India in over ten years. A court-ordered stay has delayed the much-anticipated release of Pakistan’s hit movie.

The film’s distributor, Nadeem Mandviwalla, verified that the stay order was acquired by an Indian ministry, which put an end to the movie’s showing. Prominent Pakistani distributor and exhibitor Mandviwalla blamed opposition from some political parties and individuals for the hold-up. More importantly, Shivsena also tried to oppose the film’s release over the months.

Anand Dubey, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed his opposition to the release of the Pakistani movie, questioning the necessity of releasing a Pakistani film in the country. Raj Thackeray recently issued a warning over the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in Maharashtra.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is a replica of the 1979 Pakistani classic that was launched in Pakistan in October 2022. The rivalry between Noori Natt and Maula Jatt, the local hero, is explored throughout the movie.

There is still optimism that the movie will eventually play in Indian theaters, reviving interest in international entertainment. The political and social climate that exists now between the two nations makes it difficult for the movie to make enormous profits and draw in a sizable crowd. But Fawad’s enormous fan base in India would undoubtedly aid him in creating some buzz for this massive release in that country.
