The Secret Behind Bhool Bhulaiya 3’s Success- Nostalgic Value or Strong Marketing?

If only the makers had allocated a portion of the marketing budget towards writing, perhaps Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 could have been saved.

A mediocre film that relies heavily on nostalgia and a well-known female cast, this comedy-horror falls short on both scares and laughs.

Bhool Bhulaiya 3 takes the cult classic and tries to sell it on the basis of nostalgia and hefty PR. While the film is carried by Vidya Balan and Madhuri, the focus in post-release promotions is firmly on Karthik Aaryan.

One can say that Karthik Aryan’s PR team has been placing him in the spotlight, promoting the idea that his presence was the key to the film’s success. However, the reality seems to be quite the opposite.

Bhool Bhulaiya 2 became a big hit purely on nostalgic value and this sequel tries to apply the same formula again, seemingly failing.

No matter how much you try, hefty marketing cannot hide or make up for the poor writing of a film or average performances by actors. Bhool Bhulaiya 3 is a clear example of it.

Madhuri and Vidhya Balan’s performance were the highlight of the film, whereas Tripti Dimri’s character appeared to serve mainly as a glamorous addition. Karthik Aryan seemed to try his best to impersonate Akshay Kumar, but his comedic timing was off, making the film fall flat.

The film climbs the ladder of box office numbers, with its success is largely due to its nostalgic appeal.
