Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (VVKWWV) is about to be released on 11th of October in theatres. Recently, the film received its censor certificate from the CBFC. As the makers had already claimed for the film to be 97% family-friendly, so did the CBFC certificate proclaim as the film was rated UA by the board.
The films revolves around a newlywed couple from the early 2000s who try to video-tape their nuptial night and the disc goes missing. The whole plot is about the chaos and their pursuit in finding the disc. Though the film has claimed to be family friendly and CBFC has also approved of the fact, the whole central theme around which the story revolves itself is something that is not suitable for children. The film narrates an adult story through family-friendly devices. This experimental amalgamation may or may not prove to be successful for the film.
Bollywood already has a dearth for quality adult comedies. Whenever an attempt to create an adult comedy was made, it has always ended miserably. Films like Kya Kool Hain Hum and Mastizaade define the Indian adult comedy space. These films are filled with nonsensical plots, poor writing and cheap WhatsApp jokes. With VVKWWV, the industry had a promising plot for an adult comedy. If it had been released as a proper adult comedy instead of the charade of a family-friendly film, the reception could have been way better.
On its release, the film will be clashing with Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra. Considering the fact that Jigra is currently in a way better state in terms of marketing and promotions, it gives VVKWWV a further disadvantage. The film with bad marketing is making it difficult for itself to thrive in the box office as Vettaiyan will be released a day prior to the release of the film. Making it an adult comedy and creating a good marketing around the same would have meant a good response towards the film.
Though the film has increased its target audience by getting a UA certificate, the film still lags behind due to bad marketing and experimental use of the theme. Hopefully the film will be able to survive the Vettaiyan storm and will emerge as a good hit.
