It is truly a turbulent time for cinemas. While on the one hand, theatres are barren, with barely any titles to screen, on the other, highly awaited and anticipated titles are clashing for release dates over the same weekend.
Such is the case with the second weekend in October. Not just one or two, but four eagerly buzzed titles are en route to releasing either on October 10 or 11. While ‘Vettaiyan’, with its megastar-studded ensemble cast including Rajnikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, drops in theatres across the country on October 10, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ clashes with the Rajkumar Rao – Tripti Dimri starrer ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ and Dhruva Sarja’s ‘Martin’ on October 11.
Sure, the three latter titles have generated quite the gossip online, but it might just happen that it is all eclipsed by the sheer grandeur of ‘Vettaiyan’ and it’s comparative-to-God-like cast. More than that, with its reviews circulating across all social media channels, it is very probable that the sales of not one, but all three titles releasing the following day are impacted.
‘Jigra’ might stand a fighting chance considering the pan-India tag that accompanies Alia Bhatt, while ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ might stay afloat considering the recent success of ‘Stree 2’, which also featured Rajkumar Rao. ‘Martin’, on the other hand might have a slight problem, despite the fact that it is being released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, as well as Hindi.
