The month of October seems to be the month of revival for Indian cinema. The whole year that has been in a dormant state is now erupting with multiple big releases. 11th of October will see two big releases in Bollywood. One being Alia Bhatt’s first film of the year, Jigra; and another being Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (VVKWWV) starring the stars in form Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimri. Which movie of the two will dominate the box office is a matter of contemplation.
Jigra is an action film focusing on the plot of jailbreak and the relationship of a brother and sister. The film is a female-centric one, which has its own speciality. VVKWWV however, is a light-hearted comedy film, and the makers have claimed it to be a family-friendly film where 97% of the content of the film can be watched by people of every age group.
At first, the element of being family-friendly itself gives the film an edge over Jigra which is a bold and violent thriller. Parents will usually avoid going to the theatre with kids to watch it. Whereas VVKWWV is something that can be enjoyed by a family together as a vacation or recreation. This increases the potential audience for the film.
The year has been dominated by action, thrillers and violent films. Many of them indeed have been hits, but most of the action movies turned out to be either average or flops. The month of October is filled with action thriller and violent movies in National as well as regional industries. Amidst this chaos and bloodbath, the audience can get frustrated and will look for a light-hearted film to lighten their mood. VVKWWV comes like a boon in such a situation.
One day prior to the release of these movies, Vettaiyan will be released, which is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. A day later, Martin will also be released, which too is a highly anticipated film. Both of these films belong to the action genre and are made by makers who have been established as the filmmakers of the action genre in the industry. Among them, Jigra will find it hard to thrive, whereas VVKWWV will have some chance with the deviation it will provide from the age-old action genre.
The deviated theme of VVKWWV from its peers that will release this month makes the film more suitable to be watched by the audience and thus the film can expect to get a good treatment despite big releases scheduled around it.
