From being undesirable to undeniable, “Tumbbad” is now not only a cult classic but after its re-release it gathered a concrete fanbase.
Upon its re-release it grossed ₹12 crore, firstly it was released in the imitated screens but after seeing its vast expansion, now it is all over india.
Which is undoubtedly a great success for the movie.
During the movie’s initial time it didn’t even collect half of its investment, but as we always say that the tables can turn any moment, within its first week of its re-release “Tumbbad” grossed a closely similar figure of Its investment.
Starting from promoting the re- release of “Tubbad” as a producer, Sohum Shah worked tirelessly, but there is another person who deserves the credit, and that is Rahi Anil Barve the writer and the director of this cinematic masterpiece “Tumbbad”.
Rahi Anil Barve was one of the crucial part of “Tumbbad’s” sceeenplay, and has made it super clear that he won’t be returning for “Tumbbad 2” which is a heartbreaking fact all the fandom has to accept.
“Tumbbad” upon its re-release collected ₹12 crore so far from the box office.
And it left a cultural mark on the industry that this kind of world building and the unique technique to convey a story is only possible if Rahi stays to direct the sequel, the rumours have it that the sequel will follow Vinayak Rao’s journey towards Immortality.
But in what way is still unknown to us.
The film’s actor-producer, Sohum Shah, recently confirmed that the sequel is in development, with the production set to begin in 2025.
But Rahi won’t be a part of it because he has many big projects in his hands, in which he is focusing currently.
A director who fought for the movie to succeed is out of the game, a director who created the whole universe which impacted the psyche of the audience is out of the game, this information is too much to handle.
“Tumbbad” is not only a psychology, horror now, but it is also a part of new found folklore which the audience loved, and it impacted the box office like anything else. The great success of “Tumbbad” came from Rahi’s attention to details and perfectionism.
We can’t help but draw a parallel with what Denis Villeneuve said about “Dune”.
Although , the fans are disheartened by this decision, but equally excited about his upcoming endeavours.
But now we just have to wait and watch what they do with “Tumbbad 2”
