Avid fans of Indian cinema and even film critics had been quite eagerly waiting for this Dussehra weekend, considering the looming box-office clash it had to promise. However, now that the weekend is here, there seems to be barely any cutthroat competition.
Speaking of the Rajkumar Rao and Tripti Dimri starrer ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, the film has debuted to a wide array of reviews, as is visible with its current box-office collections. Considering that both the main leads are fresh off the success of their predecessor features, ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Animal’ / ‘Bad Newz’ respectively, this is rather disappointing.
Anyhow, the film has managed to beat out one of its competitors, the Alia Bhatt led ‘Jigra’, by garnering Rs. 5 Crore during its opening day. ‘Jigra’ on the other hand, has only seemed to appeal to audiences in metropolitan cities, which is surprising, considering that the general theme of the plot, which is focused on a brother-sister relationship, should have resonated with a wider set of viewers.
However, with reasons like a bland discography being cited for ‘Jigra’s lukewarm performance, one thing becomes clear. Sure, viewers have become more inclined towards original scripts, but if given the choice, the masses will choose the mediocre light-hearted comedy over a distinctive plotline.
