Recently, if we notice, not many Indian shows have been able to generate significant buzz. The wave that started with shows like “Sacred Games” and “Mirzapur” seems to have died down. With the increasing number of shows being released on various OTT platforms, there has been a decline in quality, leading viewers to distance themselves from these shows.
Additionally, post-COVID, people have been gravitating back towards cinema screens. The novelty that came with the small screen started to fade. In the last two years, many shows have come and gone without making much impact on the audience. No matter how good the show is, it hasn’t garnered the same level of attention as older iconic series.
Amazon Prime produced several shows like “Bambai Meri Jaan”, “Dahaad”, and “Indian Police Force”. But even with a huge star cast and budget, these shows didn’t make a lasting impression. The same is true for other OTT platforms like Netflix and Disney+.
Interestingly, Bhuvan Bam, a popular YouTuber, recently launched the second season of his hit series “Taaza Khabar”, which has surprisingly gained immense viewership. Despite receiving mixed reviews, people are loving the show. It’s curious how, while bigger stars are struggling, a YouTuber seems to have revived an almost dying audience.
This could be due to Bhuvan’s impact as a creator and his strong connection with his audience. What’s your opinion on the dwindling reach of OTT shows?
