After Disastrous Box Office Releases, Akshay Kumar Dominates On OTT

The Khiladi of Bollywood is seemingly having a rough patch in his career right now. With a line of recent flops at the Box Office, his overall reputation is surely at stake as people are not going to watch his films which once they used to. While some of his films are genuinely good and have a compelling plot, most of his recent releases were simply unbearable for the critics which led to them getting washed at the Box Office.

Kumar’s positive attitude and dedication towards cinema is what keeps his fans rooting for him and as he prepares to showcase his athleticism in Singham Again this Diwali, his films have been dominating the OTT scene. Despite being Box Office failures, Akshay’s recently released films including Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira are currently on top of the most streamed movies on their respective OTT platforms.

After collecting nearly Rs 30 crores from the Box office, Sarfira struggled to become a huge hit for Akshay Kumar despite having a great and compelling plot. After its digital premiere on Hotstar, the film has picked up pace and continues to deliver. Since its digital release on 11th October, it has topped the viewership in just one week.

Another one of his goofy comedies was Khel Khel Mein which was another adaptation just like Sarfira. The film was underwhelming at the theatres but since its premiere on Netflix, it has become a blessing in disguise for the makers. Since its arrival on 10th October, the film garnered 4 Million views along with 8.7 Million hours of watch time in just four days after its digital release.

Not only that, the film is also trending worldwide in over 13 countries showcasing the domination it has had since its Netflix release. While Akshay had a rough patch at the cinemas, OTT platforms are here to the rescue for the Khiladi of Bollywood.

His upcoming projects include Singham Again, Housefull 5, Welcome to the Jungle, Sky Force, and Jolly LLB 3. It is hard to predict how these films will perform at the box office but one thing is certain these would surely be a huge hit on the OTT given the amount of success Akshay’s previous films have had.
