It is not uncommon for films and TV shows to leave audiences divided. And this becomes even easier to do when the show is centered around a theme that is not entirely a serious, established one. This is what happened with Ananya Pandey’s ‘Call Me Bae’. Although a fun and breezy watch, it debuted to mixed reviews recently.
She is following that up, however, with a beautifully shot trailer for her upcoming thriller film from Netflix, ‘Ctrl’. Nestled amidst darkness, a visibly tired protagonist, Nella decides to let AI take over the control of her life, and also by extension, her happiness. What follows is an eerie Black Mirror-esque tale.
When her and her boyfriend Joe become the perfect on-screen couple, they become the talk of their online community. However, that soon falls apart when she catches him cheating on her in public. In the spur of those moments and the aftermath of this infidelity, she asks an AI bot to erase her (now) ex-boyfriend from her life.
Well, what can be said after that? Her wish is the bot’s command. And so follows the quick removal of Joe from Nella’s digital past. Or so she thought. Chaos ensues in her life when she finds out that Joe has gone missing in real life as well.
The tech-themed trailer captures the horrifying essence of rapid digitalization beautifully, and has fans awaiting the film’s release on October 4!
