Despatch on Zee5: A Bold Thriller with a Dark Twist

Despatch, streaming on Zee5 on 13 December, 2024, another criminal thriller or whether something different will be offered. There is promise with Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, but for it to leave an impact, it needs to introduce a new perspective on how disastrous the media can become.

A particularly interesting concept, Despatch, directed by Kanu Behl explores the idea of how the media contributes to crime and corruption. Interest aside, though, it is so easily drowned out in a sea of other films with a similar tone.

The real test will be in the execution of Despatch. Will it provide a more thorough examination of the moral conundrums facing contemporary journalism, or will it only touch the surface of media manipulation?

With Bajpayee on board, the film does seem to have a hope for impressing beyond bland crime thriller fare. Star power alone isn’t going to cut it, though.

For dispatch to impress, it needs to overcome clichés. Even though Bajpayee is a force to be reckoned with, the series needs something more than just thrill. The show will succeed only if the important conversations regarding media in today’s time catch fire. It might turn out to be just another forgettable thriller if it does not innovate.
