Acclaimed film ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ by Suchi Talati is all set to make its way to OTT after a successful festival run across the globe. An Indo-French coming-of-age drama ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ will premiere on Prime Video on 18th December, 2024.
‘Girls Will Be Girls’ is set in an elite boarding school in a small Himalayan hill town in northern India and follows the story of a 16-year-old girl, whose rebellious coming-of-age is hijacked by her mother who never got to come-of-age.
The film marks the directorial debut of Shuchi Talati, who has also written the film. She is a New York based AFI graduate whose previous credit includes ‘A Period Piece’ (a SXSW 2020 selection), among various other short films.
‘Girls Will Be Girls’ stars Preeti Panigrahi in the lead role as Mira, a teenager navigating the complexities of adolescence and societal expectations. The film also stars Kesav Binoy Kiran and Kani Kusruti who is basking in the glory of her most recent outing ‘All We Imagine As Light’.
World premiere for ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ happened at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and went on to be part various other international film festivals that include Gothenburg Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Atlantic International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival and MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
Having won multiplied accolades across these festivals, ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ will now be available for general public and those who know about it have been eagerly waiting for it. For those unaware, it’s one of those independent Indian cinema that deserves all the recognition it can get. Produced by Richa Chadha, Claire Chassagne and Shuchi Talati, ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ will head to Prime Video on 18th December, 2024.
