Prime Video had earlier in May this year announced that ‘Paatal Lok’ will be returning for a new season and it might be happening soon now. Season 1 of crime thriller ‘Paatal Lok’ came out in 2020 and ended in a suicide and almost no one expected a second season.
Abundant with twists and turns, ‘Paatal Lok’ season 1 showed the class stratification of the Indian society in metaphorical terms and associated upper class with heaven, middle class with earth and lower class with hell. The series followed inspector Hathiram Chaudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat) as he investigated a case that might just be his undoing.
He was on a lookout for four hitmen, led by Vishal ‘Hathoda’ Tyagi (Abhishek Banerjee) while getting entangled in politics, prime time television, and crime. By the end, Hathiram made peace with the way things were and we ended up seeing him shoot himself. (But is he really dead?, keep reading to know)
Now that’s the kind of climax that seems sad yet complete. It was all wrapped up neatly, all the questions had been answered and that’s makes it exciting as to what the creators have in store for this latest second season.
Moreover, isn’t it too late to launch a second season after more than four years! The buzz for the title was humongous when it had come out but it eventually died down since there were no expectations of a new season. It will interesting to see how Prime Video manages to recreate the hype for the show now.
As for the time being, Prime Video has unveiled that Inspector Hathiram Chaudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat) will return (that means he is clearly alive or will we have a flashback/ghost angle?) with rookie cop Ansari (Ishwak Singh), along with Gul Panag and Anurag Arora for ‘Paatal Lok’ season 2. The sequel will feature some new additions as well including Tillotama Shome and Nagesh Kukunoor. The series will be helmed by Sudip Sharma.
The latest announcement for ‘Paatal Lok’ new season teases fans with a new poster featuring Jaideep Ahlawat’s close up inverted at right angle and a blood soaked knife approaching his eyes. He seems unaffected by it and looks it directly in the eye. Details on the plot and premiere fate remain to be unveiled.
