Himmat Singh Returns, But Is Special Ops 2 Worth It?

Today is July 18, and yes, Special Ops 2 is now streaming on JioHotstar. Fans of the show have waited a long time for the sophomore season, given that the debut premiered in 2020. We also got a spinoff series, Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story, nearly four years ago, focusing on the protagonist’s (played by Kay Kay Menon) early days in RAW.

Now that the second season is out, you must be keen to know how Season 2 has turned out. Did it perform brilliantly? Is it average? Or has it failed to live up to expectations? Let’s find out.

We’ve gathered some of the first reactions for Special Ops 2, and most of them are full of praise.

Many viewers have called Season 2 “amazing” and a “masterpiece”, a worthy addition to Neeraj Pandey’s popular espionage thriller. Special praise has been directed at Menon’s phenomenal and scene-stealing performance. Moreover, Tahir Raj Bhasin’s role as the season’s main villain has been well-received. The supporting cast, particularly Karan Tacker, has also done a great job.

Although, some viewers feel Season 2 doesn’t quite reach the heights of its critically acclaimed predecessor. A key criticism has been the lack of tension, cliffhangers, and suspense in the finale. Yet, Menon’s performance continues to receive unanimous acclaim.

Some have also noted that Special Ops 2 lacks the freshness of Season 1, calling it less exciting than the debut season.

Overall, Special Ops 2 emerges as another fine and gripping espionage story from Neeraj Pandey. It is largely a success, primarily driven by Kay Kay Menon’s stellar performance and the relevant theme of cyberwarfare. While it may not surpass Season 1 for every viewer, it remains a strong entry in the espionage genre and is highly recommended for fans of the show. Stay tuned for more updates.
