Percy Jackson Season 2: Thalia’s Return and the Rise of Kronos Explained

Percy Jackson Season 2: Thalia's Return and the Rise of Kronos Explained

Season 1 of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series got off to a flying start on the Disney+ streaming platform. Riordan not only ensured that the show stayed true to his novels, but also carefully selected the right actors for the main trio and skillfully developed their character arcs throughout the series. The way Season 1 concluded has left fans excited about what Season 2 will bring.

The Season 1 finale teased the return of Kronos, the prominent Greek deity and the father—and sworn enemy—of the three main Greek gods: Zeus, Poseidon (Percy’s father), and Hades. This makes Percy one of Kronos’ grandchildren. As we delve deeper into Season 2, we can expect to see Kronos’ growing animosity toward the titular teenage demigod.

There is also another character whose significance will increase as we approach the end of the second season, Thalia, who happens to be Zeus’ daughter, also making her one of the grandchildren of Kronos. It means she is one of Percy’s demigod cousins.

Thalia is sure to become a pivotal character in the series. Season 1 revealed what happened to her—she sacrificed herself to protect Luke and Annabeth and was transformed into a pine tree, which creates a magical shield over Camp Half-Blood, keeping all sorts of monsters away from the camp.

Season 2 will adapt The Sea of Monsters novel, which concludes with the Golden Fleece healing the poisoned pine tree and bringing Thalia back to life. She appears during the final moments of the novel. But we can see more of her in Season 2.

However, Thalia’s return to human form will also create tension, as there is a prophecy about a child of one of the three major gods (Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades) that could determine the fate of Olympus. Thalia, as a daughter of Zeus, becomes a potential candidate for fulfilling this prophecy.

Thalia also had a difficult childhood. Her mother, Beryl Grace, struggled with mental health issues and alcoholism, making her a horrible parent. Beryl believed Thalia’s status as the daughter of Zeus made her special, but she did little to protect or care for her. As a result, Thalia’s home life was unstable, leading her to run away at a young age. Moreover, Thalia was constantly hunted by monsters, as she was the daughter of the king of all Greek gods.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 can make Thalia’s backstory more compelling and emotional. Tamara Smart will Thalia in the upcoming season, which will mark the return of Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson (Percy’s mother), Glynn Turman as Chiron, Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Adam Copeland as Ares, Toby Stephens as Poseidon, Jay Duplass as Hades, and more. Lance Reddick played Zeus in Season 1. However, we should expect a new actor for Zeus’ role in Season 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
