Two Bollywood films, Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2, are lined up for release on Netflix this September. Monika Shergill, Vice President of Netflix India, confirmed in a recent interview that both films will arrive on the platform this month. The announcement created some excitement among audiences, especially since both movies carry the weight of popular titles. However, as September is already halfway through, the buzz around them is not as high as expected. A lot of attention is currently centered on Netflix’s very own project The Bads of Bollywood, which has been making headlines. With such a huge series coming, it leaves less room for these two films to stand out.
Son of Sardaar 2 is the sequel to Ajay Devgn’s 2012 hit comedy action drama. This time, the story once again follows Jassi Singh Randhawa, played by Ajay Devgn, in a mix of family clashes, romance, and over the top humour. The sequel also stars Mrunal Thakur and delivers lighthearted entertainment in the same vein as the first part.
Dhadak 2 is a very different film in tone. Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, it tells the story of two law students from very different backgrounds who fall in love. Inspired by the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, it focuses on caste and class barriers that stand in the way of young romance.
While both films are expected to be released before the month ends, the competition for attention on streaming platforms will keep them from creating a viewership that they might have in a quieter month.
