Rana Naidu Season 2 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows of 2025. A lot was at stake for this Rana Daggubati starrer, given how the debut season had performed in terms of both critical and audience reception, as well as viewership. Unfortunately, it’s safe to say that Season 2 didn’t quite meet expectations.
While it did top Netflix India’s Top 10 shows list in its opening week, its reign was short-lived. The show was quickly overtaken by the debut episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3 the following week (June 16–22, 2025), dropping to second place.
In the next week (June 23–29, 2025), Indian OTT viewers embraced the highly anticipated Squid Game Season 3, propelling it to the top spot. Since then, Squid Game has consistently ruled Netflix India’s weekly Top 10 list.
Meanwhile, Rana Naidu Season 2 currently holds the third position.
Moreover, the season failed to break into Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English shows list since its premiere. A month has passed, and it’s clear that a substantial portion of the audience’s attention was captured by Squid Game Season 3.
Several factors worked against Season 2, with its mixed reception among both critics and audiences being a primary issue. Many felt that the sophomore season lacked the intensity and grip of the debut chapter.
Rana Daggubati led the show with full commitment, while Venkatesh delivered limited but witty moments. Krithi Kharbanda and Surveen Chawla gave commendable performances.
However, the season suffered from inconsistent writing, underdeveloped subplots, slow pacing, and diluted tension as it shifted focus to family drama. Many viewers also expected Arjun Rampal to have a stronger role, but the actor was underutilized.
As a result, it remains to be seen whether Netflix will greenlight a third season. The platform is known for cancelling even popular shows if they don’t meet viewership expectations. Stay tuned for more updates.
