Aamir Khan’s film Sitaare Zameen Par will soon stream on SonyLIV, marking a shift from the actor’s earlier plan to avoid major OTT platforms. The announcement was made on March 9, but the exact date of the digital release has not been revealed yet. The streaming platform said the film will be available soon and described the release as a special milestone, as it will be the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere on the service.
The film was released in theatres on June 20, 2025 and received a strong response from both critics and audiences. It also performed decent at the box office and earned more than Rs 265 crore worldwide.
Earlier, Aamir Khan had said that the film would not release on traditional OTT platforms for several months after its theatrical run. He explained that he wanted to support theatres and protect the business of cinema halls. However, the film later became available on YouTube through a pay per view model. From August 1, viewers could rent it online for Rs 100, which was about six weeks after its theatrical release.
Sitaare Zameen Par is described as the spiritual sequel to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The story follows a basketball coach who gets into trouble after a drunk driving incident. As part of his punishment, he is ordered by the court to train a group of neurodivergent individuals in basketball.
Directed by R. S. Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia Deshmukh along with several young actors. It is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions.
