SonyLiv December 2024 Report: Cubicles Season 4 Saves The Streamer

December 2024 turned out to be much better than November 2024 for SonyLIV, which had only one original series to offer in the latter month: Freedom at Midnight. However, in December, the streamer released two gripping and highly engaging original shows, Tanaav Season 2: Volume 2 and Cubicles Season 4. Let’s take a closer look at how SonyLIV performed last month!

Tanaav Season 2: Volume 2 (Original series)

Streaming release: December 5, 2024

To this day, we still don’t know the point of splitting Tanaav Season 2 into two parts. Still, Volume 2 emerges as a worthy addition to the series, although it loses some of its edge. After a slow start, the second volume picks up pace, thanks to fast-paced shootouts and emotional undercurrents. Manav Vij once again stands out as the performer portraying Kabir, flawlessly capturing the pain of losing his father. Rajat Kapoor is another standout in Volume 2, while Gaurav Kapoor does a good job as Al Damishq. However, Al Damishq’s character loses much of his savageness and unhinged persona this time. While the storyline occasionally loses its grip, Tanaav Season 2: Volume 2 is worth watching for its impressive character arcs.

Bougainvillea (Licensed release)

Streaming release: December 12, 2024

Bougainvillea emerged as a decent commercial success. However, its critical reception was more mixed, with much of the criticism aimed at its unsatisfactory plot and disappointing finale. Another major issue is its slow pace, which will definitely test your patience. Fortunately, the highly talented trio of Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Jyothirmayi managed to save the day. While the story is mostly predictable, it remains captivating, thanks to their solid performances, even though none truly stand out. The climax, however, lacked the impactful choreography it deserved.

Stags (Licensed release)

Streaming release: December 20, 2024

Stags follows a group of friends on a disastrous stag do in South America. What starts as a week of partying descends into chaos when they’re imprisoned on a dangerous island ruled by criminal siblings. Forced to choose sides to survive, the friends navigate this deadly environment. Critics have praised its dark humour, stylish visuals, and the strong performances of the cast, drawing comparisons to “The Hangover” and “White Lines.” However, some critics find the main characters unlikeable, which detracts from the overall enjoyment.

Cubicles Season 4 (Original series)

Streaming release: December 20, 2024

Cubicles Season 4 shows Piyush’s anxiety and stress when his company faces a chaotic takeover. Overwhelmed by anxiety, he questions his purpose and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Abhishek Chauhan delivers a compelling performance as Piyush, capturing the character’s internal struggles realistically. Zayn Marie Khan shines in her debut role, bringing a refreshing energy to the show. The supporting cast provides strong comedic relief and relatable moments. While predictable in some aspects, the storyline is engaging and resonates with viewers. A good watch!
