Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops 2 (Season 2) is all set to premiere on JioHotstar on July 18. Originally, it was supposed to be released on July 11. However, a few days ago, the showrunners and cast, including Kay Kay Menon, informed fans about a last-minute delay in the second season’s launch.
While the exact reason for the delay wasn’t revealed, many believe it was due to the crowd of other OTT titles releasing on July 11, including Aap Jaisa Koi (Netflix), Foundation Season 3 (Apple TV+), Narivetta (SonyLIV), and several others.
However, July 18 isn’t shaping up to be an ideal release date for Special Ops 2 either, as several high-profile titles are also scheduled to drop that day, like Bhairavam (ZEE5), Kuberaa (Prime Video), Vir Das: Full Volume (Netflix), Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 (JioHotstar), and more.
On top of that, two other buzzy titles — Mandala Murders (starring Vaani Kapoor) and Sarzameen (starring Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan) — are also set to release on Netflix and JioHotstar, respectively, on July 25, just a week after Special Ops 2’s release.
This scenario substantially reduces Special Ops 2’s breathing room in terms of viewership. While the show has a massive fanbase in India and strong momentum from its debut season, the sheer volume of competition could seriously impact its opening-week numbers.
What could have been a record-smashing success now feels like a strategic misstep in scheduling. Despite pushing the premiere back once, the new date seems even more congested with high-profile releases. This could drastically lower its chances of a dominant launch.
With a star-studded lineup vying for attention across platforms, Special Ops 2’s arrival on July 18 will be a true test of its prominence and strong online buzz.
