Bollywood’s new take on the Spy section, directed by Sudhanshu Saria, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew and Adil Hussain, “Ulajh”.
The story revolves around a young IFS officer with a legacy of patriots in her family, now gets entangled in a dangerous personal conspiracy amidst a career-defining post far away from her home.
“Ulajh” presents a very good story with twists and turns keeping a femal protagonist as a lead.
But, there are few potholes which it couldn’t avoid. The loose plot lines and Janhvi’s acting is some places went so out of the box that it almost felt like pushed in.
The story amazingly depicted how sexist a woman’s worklife can be. Other than that, the movie is filed with twists and turns, at one point we see the protagonist being blackmailed because of some confidential information.
If we draw a parallel with “Raazi” where Alia Bhatt’s character was a spy and in “Ulajh” Jhanvi Kapoor’s character is a spy but the main problem is Jhanvi couldn’t deliver the appropriate acting this movie demanded.
But will all fairness it was very beautifully depicted story of loyalty, legacy and diplomacy.
This movie got 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb. It was initially released on 2nd August 2024, and got mixed critics review.
But in box office it failed to satisfy the audience’s expectations, but if you haven’t watched “Ulajh” yet watch it, it’s streaming on Netflix India.
#Ulajh review: Spy thriller that doesn't thrill. With the exception of a few moments, the film is mostly flat. Direction could've been better. BGM was very good in some scenes. #JanhviKapoor gives a better act than before but still has room for improvement.

#Ulajh had a potential to be a decent spy movie. Janhvi just can’t act, falters in the important scenes and there’s no voice modulation. Even Taapsee did a better job in Naam Shabana. The fabulous supporting cast deserved better writing and a better lead actress 😓
