Zwigato’s Limited Success On OTT Raises Big Questions…

We often complain that Bollywood does not make good films but sadly, films which are too good often don’t get enough attention. Take the case of Zwigato. It is a thought-provoking film that discusses several aspects of classism but the movie took nearly 2 long years to be released on the OTT. Even though the film was a massive success in the film festivals, the OTT platforms seemed reluctant to screen the movie. They did not really believe in the film and perhaps that’s the reason it took such a long time to get released.

But what is the condition after getting released?

It was released last week on the weekend. Since then it has received a lot of much-needed attention. The movie is gaining a lot of praise. But, it is still limited to a niche audience. The movie has not skyrocketed like Laapata Ladies on Netflix India. The movie is not getting attention from the masses as Stree 2 is still dominating the platform.

They are praising Kapil Sharma and the overall concept of the film but if we trust reliable third-party websites then the film is not even in the Top 10 of Prime Video movies globally which is not very difficult to do.

Stree 2 is there and a lot of Indian movies have graced the list. If somehow Zwigato somehow manages to crack that list then it would be an achievement worth celebrating.

So what are the big questions: 1. Should filmmakers continue to make good films despite dismal response? 2. Can good marketing change the fate of underrated films?
