Amazon Aims At Rebooting Robo Cop In A New Series

Ever since Amazon acquired MGM, it has been trying to cash in on all of these newly acquired properties. No wonder it was ready to usher Robo Cop into the development phase, and now the updates have started to flow in. Peter Ocko, who has previously worked on shows like The Office and Black Sails, will now be the showrunner of the Roo Cop series that Amazon is cooking up.

Let’s brush up on our history about the franchise. First introduced in 1987, starring Peter Weller, Robo Cop came into existence. A simple sci-fi premise revolving around a corrupt organization introducing a new enforcement unit that was half man and half machine. This ushered in a number of movies and TV shows. This won’t be the first attempt to revive the franchise, as in 2014, a reboot was released, which was rather forgettable.

Now Amazon has hired names like Peter Ocko along with James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett to reintroduce Robo Cop as a series, production of which will be under the banner of Atomic Monster. There have been two robocop live action series made. The studio will certainly have the pressure of presenting something new while preserving the original feel.

Robocop has quite a reputation. He has appeared across all media. Whether it be his own movie or his appearances in the Mortal Kombat DLCs, this half-man, half-machine is a definite crowd-puller. Which explains why Amazon will start off its production right away. It is to be seen if they will redeem the failure of the last reboot of the franchise
