Amy Schumer! You are not that funny! And the new trailer for her upcoming comedy flick, Kinda Pregnant, pretty much proves that. Helmed by Tyler Spindel, the movie also stars Jillian Bell, Will Forte, Brianne Howey, Damon Wayans Jr., Chris Geere, Alex Moffat, Lizzie Broadway, and more. It will arrive on Netflix on February 5.
In the movie, Schumer plays Lainy Newton, a single teacher yearning to become a mother. She grows envious when her best friend, Kate, announces her pregnancy. To cope, Lainy resorts to a white lie: she pretends to be pregnant by wearing a fake baby bump. However, her deception takes an unexpected turn when she meets the man of her dreams (Forte) while pretending to be expecting.
Schumer has faced significant backlash in the past for her vulgar, offensive, and crude humour, particularly her jokes about sex, body image, and other sensitive topics. Additionally, her arrogant public persona only adds to the criticism. It seems Kinda Pregnant is heavily influenced by her real-life persona and comedy style, which is just not good.
Some lines in the trailer are likely to trigger many viewers, such as Forte’s character saying to Schumer, “You’re the least pregnant person I’ve ever dated.” He adds, “I want them to be, like, two weeks away from dropping.” Whoa! What??
It’s hard to know what to feel about Lainy here. It’s okay to feel envious and do silly things to cope with jealousy, but lowering the bar to the point of pursuing a man with a weird fetish for pregnant women feels downright pathetic.
Anyway! Here’s the trailer for Kinda Pregnant.
