Netflix has asked for a talk show, hosted by none other than John Mulaney. The show stands to debut on the platform early next year. Back in May, Mulaney had hosted John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A., the success of which prompted Netflix to bring in John for a talk show.
As it is already clear, this won’t be the first time John Mulaney will be on Netflix, as the two have been acquainted in the past multiple times. Mulaney has showcased his talents on Netflix in The Comeback Kid, Kid Gorgeous, and John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch. Only last year, Mulaney was on Netflix for Baby J. Mulaney. The comedian has performed various stints of standup comedy on the platform as well.
The long-term association makes him a rather bankable name for the streaming service. Netflix has been working around to penetrate different genres of viewers. which makes the inclusion of the streamer a good addition.
It is not sure if we will get another show, just like “Everybody’s in L.A.” or if the support cast would return. Mainly Richard Kind, who was a staple of the show. Mulaney has been one of the most revered comics in Hollywood. He voices the Spider-Ham in the Sony Spider-verse movies. While most details are not yet revealed, the format will mostly revolve around Mulaney talking to various celebrity guests, along with various skits thrown into the mix.
Netflix talk shows have faired pretty well, whether it be Chelsea or the David Letterman shows. On the Indian side of things, we recently got The Great Indian Kapil Show, which has gotten positive reception. Thus, it is obvious for Netflix to venture further into the Talk Show Arena.
