There is one thing DC does way better than its rivals, and that is its villains. And as one of the most memorable among them once said, “If you are good at something, never do it for free. Naturally, DC has inclined further towards the dark side. With projects like “Joker” and “The Penguin” becoming fan favorites, DC is ready to bring in a couple more of these villains in the spotlight.
Recently, it has been confirmed that the studio has already started working on a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie. This expansion of DC’s working slate is crucial as it showcases a recent trend in audience reception and the studio’s reactions to the same.
DC is notoriously famous for fumbling the fan expectations. The entire DCEU was a volley of mistakes. Now that DC is finally listening to what fans actually want, the future looks much brighter. With the grim stories DC is known for, these villain-centric movies DC feels right back in their element. The last we saw of Deathstroke was in the post-credit scene of Justice League. Played by Joe Manganiello, it’s still unclear if he would reprise the role. As of now, Tom Hardy’s character-defining portrayal in The Dark Knight Rises was the last we saw of. There were speculations of Dave Bautista playing the character in the new DCU; however, that most likely won’t be the case.
DC has a number of projects under its belt. With Creature Commandos debuting soon and Superman: Legacy set to release early in 2025, along with the Supergirl and the Lanterns series still in the pipeline. It is to be seen where this project may find its footing.
