After months of anticipation, we finally have the first official trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, which is set to become the first major theatrical release from the DCU. David Corenswet stars as the Man of Steel, taking over the mantle from Henry Cavill, who first portrayed the character in Zack Snyder’s blockbuster 2013 film.
The trailer opens with Superman crash-landing on ice, spilling blood everywhere—a very intriguing way to start. He whistles to call Krypto, who helps take him home. From the outset, we see Corenswet as a young Clark Kent, a superhero driven by his desire to do good and bring hope to the world. However, the trailer also shows him confronting the harsh realities of life. Notably, the visuals in this latest clip appear much brighter than all of Snyder’s DC movies combined.
The new trailer for Superman reveals a lot in its second half. In addition to the Last Son of Krypton and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, the movie features plenty of exciting characters. We catch glimpses of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent. Additionally, we get our first official look at Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, which looks almost unrecognisable. Most importantly, the trailer introduces Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, the abrasive Green Lantern. His ugly bowl haircut might just be the scariest part of the trailer. Just kidding—or maybe not!
However, the most striking moments in the trailer are the scenes between Superman and Lois, which add warmth to the overall tone. Based on their interactions in the clip, it seems Lois discovers Clark Kent’s true identity early in the movie.
The trailer also features plenty of creatures and robots, including a colossal kaiju and a robot that Superman appears to mourn. These scenes are intercut with shots of Superman rescuing a young girl and responding to global crises, establishing his long-standing presence and heroic reputation in this world.
The new Superman trailer reveals quite a lot without giving too much away. Most importantly, it feels fresh, bright, and colourful. Above all, it leaves you with a sense of hope—a hope that the DCU will reach new heights under the creative direction of James Gunn. Superman is set to arrive in theatres worldwide on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
