Captain America: Brave New World In Troubled Waters Before Release

It seems MCU fans may face another disappointment with Captain America: Brave New World. Many are aware of the movie’s troubled production from the start. Back when it was titled New World Order, test screening reactions were quite negative, prompting Marvel Studios to order extensive reshoots for the upcoming Anthony Mackie-led film.

Marvel chose Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton to write new scenes for the sequel. Reshoots and additional photography lasted nearly four months, which, while not uncommon for major studios like Marvel, still seemed unusually long for such processes.

According to World of Reel, Marvel recently held two different screenings of Captain America: Brave New World. The report suggests these screenings did not work in Marvel’s favour either. The studio presented two different cuts of the film to gather input from viewers of diverse demographics.

Viewers’ reactions to Brave New World have been largely mixed to negative, with the main criticism focused on the handling of Tim Blake Nelson’s character, The Leader, who is supposed to be the movie’s main antagonist. The actor is described as “either too much or too little” in both versions. Moreover, the sequel’s storyline has not seen much improvement despite multiple rewrites in recent months. However, high praise has been directed toward the performances of Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford.

This is definitely not a good sign for Captain America: Brave New World, which is just five months away from its worldwide theatrical release. We don’t know how many reshoots Marvel Studios can accommodate at this point. While reshoots often improve the quality of a movie, they also increase the budget, putting additional financial strain on the production houses. This Anthony Mackie starrer is set to arrive in theaters worldwide on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates!
