Lads, it’s time to end all speculation surrounding Christopher Nolan’s next project. Universal has officially announced that the Oppenheimer director’s upcoming movie will be a cinematic adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey.
According to Universal’s latest tweet, Nolan will film The Odyssey using the brand-new IMAX technology. The movie will follow Odysseus’ epic journey home after the Trojan War and is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 17, 2026.

It seems that Nolan has taken on an almost impossible task, as there’s no easy way to create a concise, cut-to-the-bone adaptation of The Odyssey. The epic poem follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his perilous journey back to his homeland, Ithaca, after the Trojan War. Along the way, Odysseus and his men face numerous challenges, including the Sirens and Cyclops.
At this point, we don’t know how Nolan plans to approach the project. We may see another 3-hour-plus film from the director, following the success of Oppenheimer.
Leading the movie’s cast are notable talents like Matt Damon and Tom Holland. Alongside these two men, we will see Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson in the movie as well.
The Odyssey marks Christopher Nolan’s second collaboration with Universal. Their previous collaboration Oppenheimer bagged seven Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), and Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.). Stay tuned for more updates.
