“Clayface” Movie In The Works At DC Studios, Mike Flanagan Will Write

Basking in the success of HBO’s The Penguin series, led by Colin Farrell, DC Studios is moving forward with another project based on one of the most underrated villains from Batman’s Rogue Gallery—Clayface. This time, DC plans to shine the spotlight on Clayface with a movie adaptation featuring a script written by modern horror maestro Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher).

According to Variety, Flanagan will pen the script for the upcoming Clayface movie. However, the director for the project has not yet been announced. Additionally, DC Studios has not revealed any plot details. Filming is expected to commence next year.

Flanagan first pitched a Clayface project to DC Studios last year. Currently, he is developing a series adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie for Amazon MGM Studios. Additionally, he will write and direct a new take on The Exorcist for Blumhouse and Universal.

The scarcity of plot details makes the Clayface movie particularly intriguing, as it remains unclear whether the project will be part of the main DCU timeline or a standalone venture under DC Elseworlds.

DC Studios is reportedly in the process of finding a suitable director for the project.

Clayface has always been a petrifying and versatile adversary for the Dark Knight in the comics. He is capable of taking any shape or form. His origins often involve tragic accidents or scientific experiments that grant him extraordinary malleability. Whether it’s the original Basil Karlo, a disfigured actor seeking revenge, or the more recent incarnations like Matt Hagen or the Clay-Thing, Clayface’s ability to mimic others and blend into the environment makes him a formidable threat.
