The Penguin has taken Gotham by storm!
Per HBO, ‘The Batman’ spin-off series led by Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti has garnered over 5.3 million views in the US across all platforms within its first four days. This figure also encompasses the streaming viewership along with repeated airings on HBO.
The Penguin falls behind the opening episode of ‘True Detective: Night Country’, which lured over 5.7 million viewers within its first four days of release. Although, the latest Colin Farrell starrer has performed better than the final season premiere of ‘Succession’, which nabbed over 4.9 million viewers, and the second season premiere of ‘The White Lotus’ which attracted over 4.1 million viewers.
According to Max, the spin-off also received the biggest 4-day audience for a new show in every region worldwide, since Pedro Pascal’s ‘The Last of Us’ in January last year.
‘The Penguin’ picks up after the events of Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022), starring Robert Pattinson. Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot (Farrell) tries to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld following the death of Carmine Falcone. However, the stakes grow higher and more dangerous when Carmine’s daughter, the psychopath Sofia Falcone (Milioti), is released from Arkham Asylum and gets involved in the game.
The rest of the series’ cast includes Deidre O’Connell, Rhenzy Feliz, Carmen Ejogo, Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, and more. The show has become a ‘darling’ for critics, as highlighted by its ‘fresh’ score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 90 certified reviews.
