Pradeeps of Pittsburgh is a new comedy TV series releasing on 17th October. It revolves around an Indian family of Pradeeps who migrate to America from India. The plot involves their struggle in adjusting to the new place and society and the problems of their own family as well.
The series was already shot in English language, but it will be available in Hindi dubbed as well. The trailer for the show is currently available in both the languages on Prime Video where one can watch the show as well. Watching the trailers the same impression lies in one’s mind. Dubbing becomes an issue in unravelling the creator’s agenda in a work.
The show, in English, looks promising and has some very good comic elements. The English language becomes necessary, which is the primary language of America where they live. And the dialogues were very interesting in Hindi. But the Hindi dub makes it bad. The jokes when dubbed in Hindi make them unrelatable and weird to hear. The dialogues when dubbed lose the original essence. Also, the dub takes away the artistic genius behind a scene.
One solution could have been the use of Hinglish in making the film. The film could have shown conversation among the Pradeep family to be in Hindi and when they are in public and addressing someone else (American per say), they could have used English. A similar treatment was seen in The Buckingham Murders and the dialogues turned out pretty convincing there.
Hinglish could have resulted in a larger crowd appeal, it could have also meant the Hindi jokes and dialogues being more refined, and the artistic flavour and genius would have remained intact. Thus overall, the quality of the series would have been uplifted. Also, this treatment would have showcased the true lives of the Indian immigrants in America.
