The transition from teenage to young adulthood is something that doesn’t leave behind a whole lot of fond memories. This change becomes even harder without the warm and loving presence of friends and families. Moreover, it also proves to be slightly harder for those who aren’t all that sociable either.
While there are a plethora of films and shows based upon this very theme, there is one that stands out quite well. Based on Stephen Chbosky’s best-selling 1999 novel of the same name, ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’, is his 2012 directorial which also doubles as an American coming-of-age romantic drama film.
Starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Johnny Simmons, Paul Rudd, Nina Dobrev, and more in leading roles, the heartfelt film follows the life of Charlie, an awkward teenager whose life changes for the better when he befriends a group of his seniors in school, especially half-siblings Sam and Patrick.
While he gets closer to other members of their group, his heart is set on one person alone: Sam. However, the film is not just another teenage rom-com. Rather, it also delves into the consequences of troubled pasts on the present, and how it can be overcome through love and true friendship.
