Fans Are Furious at Stranger Things Writers and We Get Why

In the new Stranger Things 5 making-of doc, people spotted what look like ChatGPT tabs open on a computer in the writers’ setup. That alone doesn’t prove anything. But it showed up right after the finale landed a rough 53 percent audience score. Timing like that invites suspicion.

The ending already felt rushed. Big story threads were ignored. Will’s powers suddenly mattered again. Emotional moments felt forced. When the Duffers admitted they started filming without a finished finale script, that only made things worse. You do not end a decade-long show without a clear plan. That is basic storytelling.

So when fans see possible AI tools on screen, the reaction is predictable. People feel cheated. Stranger Things was built on heart, nostalgia, and careful character work. The last thing fans want is a messy ending that feels like it came from shortcuts.

Still, let’s be fair. A tab being open does not mean AI wrote the script. Writers use the internet for research, notes, and brainstorming. Jumping straight to “ChatGPT ruined the show” is a stretch.

But here’s the real issue. The finale already failed to satisfy a huge part of the audience. The doc just added fuel to the fire. When fans are disappointed, they look for someone or something to blame.

If the Duffers wanted to protect the legacy of the show, they should have been clearer, more prepared, and more transparent. Right now, the story around Stranger Things is not about monsters or friendships. It is about trust.

And once fans lose that, it is very hard to win back.
