The rise of Glen Powell’s stardom is something many actors can only dream of. The Twisters star has always been an amazing actor, starting with his first full-fledged role in The Expendables 3 (2014). However, it took him nearly eight years after The Expendables 3 to gain the limelight he truly deserved, thanks to Top Gun: Maverick! His scene-stealing performance as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin was one of the major reasons behind the sequel’s record-breaking success. It didn’t take long for Paramount to announce Top Gun 3. However, Powell’s stardom may pose a huge problem for Paramount in the future. Here’s how!
Maverick’s spectacular success not only helped Powell become a global phenomenon but also cemented his place in Hollywood. After Top Gun 2, the actor appeared in Richard Linklater’s critically acclaimed Netflix film, Hit Man. His growing stardom also helped Anyone but You and Twisters become major commercial successes.
Powell has secured his place in Hollywood as one of the hottest stars right now. His good looks, outstanding acting talent, and contagious charisma have certainly helped him become a global name. Plus, the actor is busy filming several upcoming projects. His collaboration with Margaret Qualley in Huntington has entered the post-production stage. Additionally, he is working with J. J. Abrams on the filmmaker’s next movie and will star in John Lee Hancock’s Monsanto, which is currently in development. He is also part of Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man.
Fans are worried that Powell’s commitments might prevent him from appearing in Top Gun 3, considering how important Hangman’s character was in Maverick. His rivalry with Miles Teller’s Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw reminded fans of the competitive tension between Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Val Kilmer’s Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the original 1986 film. Hangman boldly displayed all the conventional characteristics of a young Top Gun candidate: toughness, ego, talent, and unapologetic behavior. But beneath all these qualities, Hangman had a good heart and cared for his fellow Top Gun candidates. Most importantly, he saved Maverick and Rooster when all hope seemed lost.
Production for Top Gun 3 is expected to begin in 2025, with a potential release in 2026. However, Glen Powell’s current filming commitments may force Paramount to delay the threequel’s production schedule, which could ultimately push back its release window. We’ll have to wait and see how Paramount handles the situation. Stay tuned for more updates.
