Mubi Acquires Daniel Craig’s ‘Queer’ For The UK, Canada, India, & More

Mubi has signed a multi-territory deal for Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming trippy feature adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ iconic novel Queer, starring Daniel Craig as William Lee.

As a result, Mubi has taken all rights for the upcoming Craig starrer in the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Latin America, Spain, Austria, Germany, Benelux, Turkey, and India. A24 has done the same for the United States.

Mubi has also successfully acquired all rights, excluding theatrical, for Italy.

Queer premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where it was positively received by critics. As of now, the romance drama has an 80% “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 54 certified reviews. Critics have declared Craig’s take on William Lee his best acting performance to date.

Craig, the former James Bond star, plays William Lee in Queer. The film is set in 1940s Mexico City and follows Lee, who starts wandering around the city’s clubs and becomes attracted to drug user Eugene Allerton (played by Drew Starkey), a discharged Navy serviceman, after saving his skin from a drug bust in New Orleans.

Alongside Craig and Starkey, Queer has Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Ariel Schulman, Drew Droege, David Lowery, and many more talents. The film is set to come out in theatres on November 27. Stay tuned for more updates.
