Keira Knightley is back in action mode with Netflix’s Black Doves, an upcoming six-part spy thriller series. The project promises to make your Christmas more action-packed than cozy.
Alongside Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Imitation Game), the series features talents such as Ben Whishaw (Paddington series, Spectre) and Sarah Lancashire (Yesterday, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie). Knightley and Whishaw will form an unlikely spy-assassin duo, facing high stakes with plenty of knife fights, hardcore physical action, and British wit.
Netflix first announced Black Doves back in April last year. Joe Barton has written the show, with production banner Sister (Chernobyl) serving as the main producer. The streamer is pretty confident with the series, which is why it announced the show’s renewal for a second season at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival.
Netflix has unveiled the forthcoming spy thriller series’ first look images. Check them out!
Plus, we know the show’s release date, which is December 5.
Black Doves is Knightley’s next major project after her role in last year’s TV movie Boston Strangler, where she portrayed the late American journalist Loretta McLaughlin. The rest of the cast includes Andrew Buchan, Adeel Akhtar, Finn Bennett, Luther Ford, Andrew Koji, Kathryn Hunter, Sam Troughton, Ella Lily Hyland, Adam Silver, Ken Nwosu, Gabrielle Creevy, and Omari Douglas. Knightley will play Helen Webb, a down-to-earth, quick-witted, hardworking mother and wife — and, most importantly, a highly skilled professional spy. For 10 years, she has been secretly sharing her politician husband’s secrets with her organization. Things take a dramatic turn after her lover, Jason (Koji) gets assassinated. Stay tuned for more updates.
