Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the Russo Brothers’ The Electric State, a forthcoming sci-fi adventure comedy starring Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy). Based on Simon Stalenhag’s 2018 novel, the film takes place in an alternate 1997 where robots have lost their freedom and humanity is disconnected. Amidst the chaos, Michelle (Brown) teams up with Keats (Pratt) to find her lost brother.
Alongside the leading duo, The Electric State stars Ke Huy Quan, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci, and features the voices of Brian Cox, Anthony Mackie, Jenny Slate, Alan Tudyk, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Alexander, and Woody Harrelson.
The sentient robots featured in the trailer once lived peacefully among humans, as per the film’s official logline. Now, they are nothing more than mascots or sources of entertainment for humans, and some are forced to live in exile following a failed uprising. Michelle’s world turns upside down after a cute-looking robot, Cosmo, reveals that it has a surprising connection to her lost brother.
The Electric State is the Russo Brothers’ next directorial venture after The Gray Man (2022). The film has been made on a staggering $320 million budget, making it one of the most expensive projects to come out of Netflix. It will arrive on the streaming platform on March 14, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates. Here’s the trailer!
